Lords of Atlantis II

Those Allured by the Call of the Sea

Fantasy equal: Merman

You are a quiet, introverted guy, known as the Lone Wolf by the handful of close friends you have. You mostly keep to yourself and only speak when spoken to. You are a true friend, always there when others need you and portray the role of the strong, silent type in your circle of friends.

You practice quite a few hobbies, especially ones involving water. So much so that you’ve bought a small, secluded cottage right at the third beach of Dana Bay. You absolutely love Dana Bay in the off season, but once vacationers invade this holiday town, you make a break for it and visit friends or family in some remote location. In the off season, the beach is your domain, and hardly anyone wishes to drive all the way to the third beach in winter when it’s so cold and windy and the first and second beaches are a shorter drive.

Every other morning, a while after breakfast, you pull on your favourite shorts and make your way barefoot down the stairs to the beach. You love the feeling of your feet sinking into the soft sand. You perform a few stretches and off you go for a jog alongside the beach. You’re in your element as the cool ocean breeze fills your chest and chills your warm body.

You stumble across what seems to be an amulet. It faintly gleams in the morning sun. It looks ancient and valuable. You guess the metal chain is of silver, which grasps a magnificent aquamarine jewel. You pick it up. It is icy to the touch. You place it around your neck as you have no pockets and off you sprint once more, quite chuffed by your find.

On your return you sprint into the ocean for your usual ultimate cool down. Once you’re deep enough you dive into the water and drift around as you regain your breath and soak in the salty water. After a minute or so you lunge forward into the water to return home. You realize something feels different... your legs feel different, constricted together, yet mobile. You sink into the water and bend at your waist. You are shocked at what you see... instead of a pair of legs you see a tail! It is a magnificent tail, glimmering and shimmering in various shades of pearly greens and blues. You gasp for air, unknowingly breathing in the ocean’s water and absorbing oxygen from it.

You finally regain your wits. Still peering at your tail, you wiggle it. You feel powerful muscles contracting in your tail as you power water to and fro whilst wiggling more vigorously. You suddenly realize you’ve been breathing in water all along. You can breathe under water! Now thinking this must be some amazing dream you decide you must make the best of the time you have available before you wake up. You are to explore what you could never explore before. You dive deeper in the water and propel yourself forward with great force.

You are spellbound by the waving shapes of colour the sunlight forms in the ever shifting waters of the ocean. You try to make your acquaintance with the surrounding creatures. They consider you a predator and speed away at the sight of you. Thinking you should rather not chase after them, you focus your admiration on jelly fish, the anemone that dance on the reef and crabs and other critters that scavenge about on the lookout for food.

You smile as you think how lifelike this dream is and hopefully you remember this dream for once when you wake up. You sense a faint vibration on the waves of the ocean. It’s hardly audible, but you can feel it in the fibre of your being. You’re reminded of the amulet you are wearing as you notice it almost pulling you in the direction of the deep ocean. It also starts to glow faintly for some reason. This dream gets more interesting by the minute! You wonder where it will lead you. Without hesitation you abide to the will of the amulet and swim to where it guides you. The amulet’s glow strengthens with every passing moment as you torpedo forward into darker territory.

In the distance you notice a flickering light. It grows brighter and larger as you slice your way through the cold water. What can it be? Soon a glowing coral reef reveals itself. You can almost compare the light it emits to daylight, so strong is it. Much to your astonishment you find the reef moulded into what seems to be buildings. There are arch ways, what seems to be windows and wait... what’s that? A person? You’ve spotted a merman! Someone like you now. And there are more of them! They notice you and suddenly several of them torpedo towards you at great speed. For the first time in your dream you are frightened. They come bearing smiles however, each one of them funnelling around you as they swim up, twisting their bodies around yours without touching you and finally halting above of you as they conclude what seems to be a greeting.

One of the merpeople swims a bit closer with his right hand forming a fist over his heart. He speaks...

“Welcome to Atlantis, friend. I am pleased to see the Heart of the Ocean has graced us with the presence of a worthy surfacer,” says the merman as he touches the amulet on your chest.

“...Okay, this dream is now getting a bit weird,” you think to yourself.

“We mean no harm,” says the merman. “You are our honoured guest and will be treated as such.”

“We can feel the tension in the water from the energy you emit”, the merman says. “You need not be alarmed. Come with me as I show you what the Heart of the Ocean has led you to. Maybe a tour will make you feel more at ease.”

You reluctantly swim alongside the merman as he guides you deeper into the majestic glowing city of Atlantis. He tells you that he is one of three princes of the merpeople; the youngest and is named Andruil. His eldest brother is heir to the throne, of which he is pleased, since he has no desire to rule his people. He seeks adventure and after exploring every far end of the ocean, he now wishes to explore the surface. No merman ever had the notion of leaving the city of Atlantis (apart from Ariel of legend), for it is beautiful and peaceful in Atlantis and for years now no one’s life has been threatened by sharks or giant squids who now have seem to have disappeared from this side of the ocean. Furthermore it is known from the legend of Ariel (the first mermaid to cross the veil of sea and land) that land is a place of danger and turmoil and no merman or mermaid should come close to that veil. Andruil says he has crossed the veil himself and has watched you as you go about alongside the beach. There’s nothing dangerous about the surface. Not from what he gathers. He says it seems quite peaceful.

You are told the Heart of the Ocean is a magical artefact that was borne by Ariel. She used its power to cross the veil. The amulet transformed her lower body into that of a surfacer. The effects were reversed once she returned to the ocean. This transformation is how your legs have been turned into a tail. The prince beseech you to play the role of an ambassador of sorts to convince the king and queen that the surface is not as perilous as they all believe it to be and is safe enough for exploration. The prince is to be a surveyor of sorts and should report his findings of the surface world to the king once he gathered enough information. It is but an excuse to explore the surface, for the prince knows the merpeople have no interest in the surface, other than the prince himself. He convinced his father, the king, however that it would make sense to explore the surface in case the merpeople ever need help.

Your dream has taken a strange turn; it’s as if your dream challenges you to face your fear of public speaking. You get enough of such torture during meetings at work. This is your dream however; you are in charge, so you have nothing to lose. You agree to help Andruil. He is thrilled by your agreement and is pleased that he has chosen the right surfacer to be his ambassador. He mentions the king and queen would like to meet him soon, as the whole city would know of your presence soon enough, but for the next few days you will be his guest, as he wants to hear all about the surface and will answer any questions you may have.

Andruil leads you to the city palace. It is a remarkable, majestic structure of glowing rock, decorated in an array of shiny pearls and shells. You are led straight to the tallest tower. Andruil claims it to be his bachelor pad.

“What do you think? Here you have a 360 degrees angle view of the city and it is secluded as well. No merman really wishes to swim this far up. It is remarkable that you managed to keep up with me. You have the spirit of a true Atlantean!” Andruil exclaims.

“It is surreal. I never would have thought one’s mind can dream up such fantasy and with such detail. It is remarkable,” you say.

“You think of Atlantis as a dream?” Andruil asks. “That’s a rather kind way to describe my home.”

You make yourself at home and creep out of your shell a bit more as you speak more to Andruil. His voice has a calming effect on you. This is when you start to take note of his features. He looks rather similar than you do. He also has a magnificent green and blue tail, has an athletic, defined torso and slender yet strong arms. His torso is mostly covered in skin, yet where a surfacer has hair covering his chest, armpits and pubes, you two have shimmering scales and little twirly thingies that look like small tufts of seaweed. Pubes... pubes!

“Where is my tool!” you exlaim.

Andruil bursts out with laughter. “You should still have it. Well, lets hope you do,” Andruil says giggling.

Andruil glides closer to you and touches the scale-covered bulge of where your blade and pommel gems used to be.

“You definitely have one; otherwise this part would have been as flat as a flounder, which it obviously is not. With some stimulation, your “tool”, as you refer to it, will expand and reveal itself...” says Andruil. “Just like that!”

The touch of the Prince of the Ocean stimulates you indeed. You are paralyzed from embarrassment as your altered blade slides out from underneath your pouch. It doesn’t look much like a man’s blade. It is longer and slender, a bit floppy, but should be firm enough, you guess. The tip of the blade is pointier as well.

“I sense it is I that caused you to be in this state. I apologize; I did not mean to do so. For the record, I quite like you in that way well,” Andruil says with a broad smile on his face.

You don’t know how to respond, stutter a bit and then decide to rather stay quiet. Soon after you think that it is a mere dream and maybe you should pursue a sexual act with your scaly friend here.

“Since we have this mutual attraction... would you mind showing me how to use my new tool?” you ask Andruil confidently.

“I thought you’d never ask!” he replies.

With that said Andruil embraces you and give you the wettest kiss you have ever received. You’re not sure if you taste the saltiness from his mouth, or the salty water all around you. The sensation is quite different and you don’t need to breath through your mouth! Your excited being breaths through the gills of your neck more vigorously.

Andruil presses his middle firmly against yours and entwines his tail around yours. His tool has slid out from his pouch and joins yours in its glory. The two of you start to rub off against each other, which works surprisingly well. The two of you continue this action whilst kissing and caressing each other. Soon enough you reach your climax, which sends a white cloud of nectar drifting up towards your faces. Andruil closes his eyes and breaths in your nectar, which sends him to his climatic state. His nectar soon follows the same path. He reopens his eyes and smiles at you.

So follows the arrival of the dreaded meeting with the parents. You wished then you would wake up, but that never happened. The meeting however went quite alright. Andruil’s family was just as friendly and kind-spirited as he is. They accepted you and Andruil’s proposal with open arms. Today the two of you are as happy as can be. You, the shy loner, now have an ‘Australian’ boyfriend with the extraordinary blue amulet always around his neck. You two have opened a surf/swimming/diving school where Andruil amazes your clients with his adeptness to aqua sports and great knowledge of the ocean. The adventure and Andruil was truly dream come true.

“In Greek mythology, mermen were often illustrated to have green seaweed-like hair, a beard, and a trident. In Irish mythology, mermen are described as extremely ugly creatures with pointed green teeth, pig-like eyes, green hair, and a red nose. In Finnish mythology, a merman (vetehinen) is often portrayed as a magical, powerful, handsome, bearded man with the tail of a fish. He can cure illnesses, lift curses and brew potions, but he can also cause unintended harm by becoming too curious about human life. The boto of the Amazon River regions is described according to local lore as taking the form of a human or merman, also known as encantado ("enchanted one" in Spanish) and with the habit of seducing human women and impregnating them. Chinese mermen were believed to only surface during storms or, in some cases, were believed to have the ability cause storms.

Much like sirens, mermen would sometimes sing to people and gods and enchant them, distracting them from their work and causing them to walk off the deck or run their ships aground. Other stories have them squeezing the life out of drowning men while attempting to rescue them. They are also said to take humans down to their underwater kingdoms.

The actions and behavior of mermen can vary wildly depending on the source and time period of the stories. They have been said to sink ships by summoning great storms, but also said to be wise teachers, according to earlier mythology. A merman, like a mermaid, attracts humans with singing and tones.”
