Those Akin to an Animal Spirit
Fantasy equal: Druid
Some of us believe God watches over us. Others believe a guardian angel watches over them. And a few believe they are guided by an animal spirit; their spiritual equal in the animal kingdom.
In most cases your familiar resembles your human characteristics, both the physical and psychological aspects of your being. Those who are flight of foot may be aligned with a panther. Those with great strength may be aligned with a bear. And those small in stature may be aligned with a ferret.
Sometimes though, nature deviates from that which is likely and grants us with a familiar with which intertwined as one, strengthens one of your weaknesses. Our friend with a small stature may possibly lack in physical strength. Mother Nature may take note of this and align him with a bear familiar, whose brute strength matches the power of our friend’s heart and spirit. There is one aspect of your familiar that is universal to all who have one and that is your familiar is always of the opposite gender than what you are.
Familiars make their appearance in many a fantasy tales and role-playing games. Not too long ago a film was produced that focuses on familiars, or daemons as they called them. The main character, Lyra, in the film The Golden Compass, has a very unusual familiar. His name is Pan, who is not only a ferret, but can shapeshift into several other animal forms as well, including a bird and a cat. All three shapes resemble a small animal, though the bird form deviates from the other two, who are mammals.
In the world of fantasy gaming, especially the Dungeons and Dragons genre, you would be able to create or play with a Druid character. A Druid is a humanoid being who draws his/her power from Mother Nature. They see themselves as Nature’s servants and do what they must to keep her safe, maintain balance and rectify that which is unnatural. In return Mother Nature provides her servants with power over the elements, healing abilities and an animal companion.
The following domain is dedicated to those among us who have empathy towards our brothers of fur, scales and feathers; Druids and their animal kin in their natural habitat.

“Druids are keepers of the world who walk the path of nature, following the wisdom of the Ancients and Cenarius, healing and nurturing the world. To a druid, nature is a delicate balance of actions, in which even the smallest imbalance can create storming turmoil from peaceful skies. Druids draw their power from this wild energy, using it to change their shapes and command the forces of nature.”

"Daemons are a manifestation of people's souls. In this world, the soul lives outside the human body, and they have an animal that follows them around for life. The animal is not a pet. They are as much a part of the person as a soul is to a person in our world. In their performance, they exhibit knowledge of what the character is thinking, and they kind of have their mannerisms… In theory, every shot that has a human would have a daemon in it. We worked to keep them in the world without making it look like it was being overrun by feral creatures running everywhere. It is a good balance."
